Dr. Hussain is a graduate of medicine from Dow Medical College. He passed the Sindh Public Service Commission exam in 1974 and joined the Health Services of Government of Sindh. Throughout his career of 34 years with the Government of Sindh, Dr. Hussain held many important positions. For example, Dr. Hussain was RMO GEN-1 responsible for entire Surgical and Medical store procurement at one of the biggest hospitals in Pakistan. In recognition of his passion for the service of humanity combined with his unique skills in public dealing, conflict resolution, and management, Dr. Sajjad promoted to the important positions of Deputy Medical Superintendent and Additional Medical superintendent. He remained in the mainstream administration of a highly demanding and overloaded prestigious institute of Civil Hospital Karachi from 1974 to 1995. At the time Civil Hospital Karachi was the biggest Hospital of the country with bed strength of 1750 and 9 operation theatres and 36 departments. The Hospital had one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the world. He has headed many large public hospitals as the Chief Executive / Medical Superintendent. In 1995 he joined the World Bank Family Health Project as the Project Director.
